Smartphone Collection

Gambia Smartphone

If anyone has any old phones, particularly Smartphones, lying around the house, we are hoping to collect as many as we can and take them out to Gambia in November. They’ll be put to good use!

Surprisingly, given it’s poverty, mobile phone and Internet coverage is much more widespread in the Gambia than you might expect. You will see many people with mobile phones, even in far flung villages. However, the phones are usually of a very poor standard. There aren’t many smart phones in the Gambia, but the coverage is there and the credit is reasonably cheap to buy.

Aside from the basic necessities of life, probably the most requested item you are likely to receive from a Gambian would be for a smart phone. A phone can be a lifeline and a smartphone can open up social and economic opportunities in Gambia and further afield.
